Spring Clean Your Dental Health Routine!

The daffodils are blooming, the temperature outdoors is slowly rising & the clocks are going forward this weekend, and whilst that means we lose one hour in bed, it also means that spring is officially here!

When spring time hits, everyone appears to be happier, more cheerful as it’s the time of year to get everything in order & spring clean your life – the office, the house, clearing out the toys the kids have outgrown, so why not also think about giving your mouth a spring clean? Here are a few steps:

Step 1: Visit our lovely hygienist

       Our dental hygienists are specially trained and work alongside the other members of the dental team to give preventative dental health and also treat gum disease. This includes professionally cleaning your teeth with a ‘scale and polish’, which removes plaque and tartar; just like a really deep ‘spring’ clean. They also show you the best way to keep your teeth free of plaque, give advice about diet and preventing tooth decay.

Step 2: Remember to brush

       Brush twice a day (morning & night) for 2 minutes. The best way to brush efficiently is to spend 30 seconds on each quarter section of the mouth, not missing the tops and sides of each tooth.

Step 3: Floss every day

       Brushing alone won’t prevent plaque buildup so remember to also floss to clean in between your teeth and to remove bacteria stored there.

Step 4: Time for a new toothbrush?

       Toothbrushes have a lifetime of 3-4 months, so even if the bristles still look new and not frayed, the effectiveness to brush your teeth properly does go down. Buy a new brush but don’t toss out the old one; use it to help you spring clean other parts of your house, e.g. your computer keyboard.

Step 5: Eat healthy

              New Year’s isn’t the only time to think about your diet and food choices, but why not take this spring-time opportunity to consciously cut down on your sugar intake like fizzy drinks, alcohol, sweets etc and replace them with healthier alternatives.

Giving your teeth a good spring clean & looking after them on a daily basis will ensure you have a clean and healthy mouth, it will improve your appearance, help you to keep your teeth for longer and give you spring fresh breath.
