Remembering September 11

This Saturday marks the 20-year anniversary of harrowing loss. The attacks on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 unhinged the lives of the families, friends, and colleagues of the nearly 3,000 lives lost.

This week we honor the dignity, courage, and strength of all those directly affected by this tragedy. The devastation and loss have fueled resilience, rebuilding, determination, courage, and endurance and have inspired the work in fields as diverse as medicine, engineering, psychology, politics, and public health. As a community of one, spanning the globe, we honor a profound lesson of September 11— the value and solace of coming together in difficult times— a spirit that continues to endure.

Never let it be said that the flame of freedom was extinguished on our watch. That can be summed up in two words: We Remember!
